Why do children's omega-3s contain only DHA and lack EPA?

Both KIDS Omega 3 and KIDS DHA + D3/K2 contain only low amounts of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), which is why it is not listed as an active ingredient on the label. We have deliberately chosen to create a product with a significant presence of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) for the reasons listed below.

The KIDS products are primarily aimed at toddlers and the youngest children, where eicosanoid metabolism and inflammation are not usually a concern, as it is primarily about ensuring proper and sufficient nutrition of cell membranes and proper development of cognitive functions (brain, vision), in which DHA plays a key role. Also, panels of world experts (EFSA, WHO) have defined intake reference values for such young children for DHA only, namely 250 mg per day. At these doses, the child's optimal development of psychomotor and cognitive functions, immunity, etc. is ensured. The child's body is also able to enzymatically transform DHA (as a long fatty acid) and use it as EPA when needed. In adults, such metabolism is uneconomical, mainly due to the need for much higher doses. Therefore, in adults, as opposed to young children, it makes sense to choose products where EPA is present for supplementation. To this end, we have Omega 3 Enhanced BioPlus and Vegan Omega 3 products in our portfolio for adult clients.
